RE: The to-read pile - Farseer - Jan-07-2012 Blood Meridian, or The Evening Redness in the West and The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Anyone here read either of those? RE: The to-read pile - 'thul - Jan-07-2012 These beings have not. RE: The to-read pile - fool-ish - Jan-07-2012 I haven't read them, though I have heard of the author. RE: The to-read pile - Albertosaurus Rex - Jan-08-2012 Same for me. Plus a good friend who struggled through The Road and eventually put it down, so not much incentive here... RE: The to-read pile - fool-ish - Jan-08-2012 Not a bad film though, 'The Road.' I'm now halfway through 'Dragon Haven' and intend to start 'A Dance With Dragons' when I've finished. It's a proper dragon-fest at the moment! ![]() ![]() RE: The to-read pile - Farseer - Jan-09-2012 The local librarian told me that they are 'must reads' but he didn't have them on hand to lend me (of course!). I'm not surprised that nobody has read them...I'm not sure about The Road but Blood Meridian sounds like it would sit firmly in the western genre. Thanks though! ![]() My son is up to AFfC and I can't believe the number of times he's groaned following the death of yet another important character! ![]() EDIT: I'm worried now that this ^ comment could be spoilerish!!! Is it? ![]() RE: The to-read pile - fool-ish - Jan-09-2012 Oh yes, our Mr. Martin isn't shy of seeing folk off! I groaned rather a lot too. RE: The to-read pile - 'thul - Jan-09-2012 It is strange from some perspectives how he kills off main characters, but it is also more logical. People do die in war. And they do not just die of old age or accidents. RE: The to-read pile - fool-ish - Jan-09-2012 Yes, agreed 'thul, it is inevitable in a war. But some scenes and 'seeings off' were so extreme, they left me gaping and a particular scene stopped me reading at one point, I was that shocked! You may be able to hazard a guess at the scene I'm talking about? It took me some time to get my head around it, I can tell ya! RE: The to-read pile - Farseer - Jan-10-2012 Possibly the same event (though I have no idea! ![]() |
