I don't even know what to say. Uhhuh Martin is one of the best authors I've ever had the pleasure to read. His world-building is rich to the point I can taste the foods he describes.. his character-building is more complex than any thing else I've ever read and, well, the story is just SO DAMN good.

Your loss. Blink

Anywho. I finally finished the Mistborn trilogy and am now reading Alloy of Law, which is a stand-alone "4th" book he put out in the same series.

I know, ladies, I know. I've always thought that the rest of you/the world can't be wrong about ASoIaF (!!) and that's why I've attempted it so many times...not to mention the fact that I have a rule that if I start a book/series I have to finish it. Blushing

I would very much like to know what happens to one person in particular (JS) and I haven't disliked everything...there's just something that grates on me...

Argh! I feel bad but... Surrender

You'll have to read it to find out what happens to JS! Wink

Ah seriously though, it would seem you've tried and tried to get in to it and as much as I understand your rule (I have the same one) there are some books that just won't live within the rules! I suppose if the tv series continues and assuming you watch it, of course, you'll find out what happens anyway. And give over with the 'feeling bad' stuff..'tis only a book BlinkSmiling

Alloy of Law is a good book. Different yet similar.

Not too many bunnies in ASOIAF, unless you count the ones in the stewpot. P

I just finished M. K. Jemison's Inheritance Trilogy: The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, The Broken Kingdoms, and The Kingdom of Gods. Well, actually, I just finished it twice. It was Hobb's books that got me into the read-it-twice-in-a-row mode, and I've been doing it ever since, and enjoying the books all the more. The interesting premise of this trilogy is a world with highly flawed, human-like gods, similar to the Greek Gods, that interact with the people in the world they created. Lots of court intrigue, smoldering looks, and unexpected magic. Albertosaurus, I noticed you asked about this in another thread, last year. Yes, I can certainly recommend this author!

But as for me, my heart is with the Sea, and I will dwell by the grey shores until the last ship sails.

School holidays are due in a little over a week so I hereby pledge a portion of my break to reading the rest of AGoT (and possibly beyond) before I make any further such blasphemous comments in this space. P

These beings have begun reading a book recommended to them elsewhere...

"The deed of Paksenarrion" by "Elizabeth Moon"

So far, it shows great promise...

Dragonlance Legends, almost finished with book 1 (Time of the twins). I like the DL series, they're an easy read.

These beings can now confirm that the last mentioned book can be recommended. Its a long read (three books in one, 1040ish pages), but well worth it.

Some author or other compared it to tolkien's works for some reason, but 'thul cannot see why. It is a work of High fantasy, having elves, magic, orcs and things like that, but beyond that the resemblance is limited.
