Mickey Zucker Reichert - The last of the Renshai (book 1 of the Renshai trilogy)

Norse mythology based fantasy. I'm about halfway the book, and while it's not exactly brilliant, it's a nice read. Doesn't have me extremely hooked yet though.

This sounds like something I would enjoy!

Deryni Rising also sounds like a good read.

The Renshai books are very good...

I'm still at the start of the second Liavek book. Then I made the mistake of starting to read Charles Dicken's the Bleak House although I had finally just started the Wizard's First Rule too (thanks to ChriSchaefer who gifted me an ebook copy! Thankful). All of these will have to wait now though because (please don't kill me for telling you this...) I received an advance reader's copy of the Inheritance today. Blushing

Kill you? What could possibly make you think anyone here would do that?

hmm... now where was that handheld teleporter and the sniper rifle again?

*grins*

nah... no worries... no killing planned... These beings are patient enough to wait till it is released (and probably a while after that too...)

Just finished Starship Troopers. Can't say I really liked it all that much. The philosophical arguments on society, government, morality were interesting. I wish he introduced differing points of view on those topics, though. But even the narrator is too bland and obedient to make any significant rebuttal. The argument that martial law is the most efficient mode of governing may be valid, but Heinlein doesn't seem to elaborate much more beyond the explanation that there are big, bad, Bugs (commies, essentially) out there to destroy humanity.

Aside from that, the characters are pretty flat. The plot isn't all that intriguing and the narrator bores me.

While I appreciate Heinlein trying to present the story through the eyes of an ordinary soldier, I wish the narrator at least had some original thoughts of his own. He is much too obedient and simple. It's like he refuses to think about anything outside his present duties as a soldier, never wondering what is happening beyond his circumstances. On a side note, I also wish I knew he were Latino earlier. The late reveal kind of threw me off.
I'd still like to see the movie though.

I think I'll tackle Anna Karenina next.

The movie is highly recommended...

These beings do not know how legality is in your country, but here it is fully legal to stream movies online, so 'thul will recommend searching for an online streamer for starship troopers if you wish to watch it.

(hopefully that covers the potential legal issues of linking, right mervi/farseer?)

Downloading the movie makes it easier to watch, but in most places such is quite illegal.

I am so jealous right now.

Just finished Deryni Checkmate. As I mentioned in "The to-read pile", I'm first going to read Howard Waldrop's collection Things Will Never Be The Same before finishing the Deryni Chronicles.

These beings are (among others) reading the book "Heaven's Devils" by William C. Dietz

it is a fairly new book set in the starcraft Universe...
