What movie/s are you watching?

Watched Soylent Green the other night. Really good sci-fi movie about how human society could be like if overpopulation led to the death of the planet's resources and inability to provide food for everyone. I also found the commentary on the way people eventually see and treat each other as objects to be quite interesting. Can the value of a human being ultimately drop to such a state when the planet is overrun with them?

The revelation that humans become a source of food for humans is also something to think about. If cannibalism is the only method left to survive, it cannot be seen as unethical but necessary. The organization that produces Soylent Green may actually be doing a favor for humanity in hiding SG's food source. Not only are they providing the main sustenance for the majority of humans, but they also play a role in controlling the population. The planet is all but dead and would take hundreds if not thousands of years for its ecosystems to recover. And quite possibly will only recover if humans become extinct.

There is no mention that the company is making any effort to fund ecosystem restoration projects, or even technology to grow food. The company holds total control on the most important and most valuable commodity and they will not survive if people can resort to a different food source. Also, the executives of the company already enjoy lavish lifestyles off SG sales, so they are not likely to try to do anything that would risk putting them out of business.
