Blood Meridian, or The Evening Redness in the West and The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Anyone here read either of those?

These beings have not.

Note:
when 'thul write in all italics, it is the lord of the three realms within 'thul speaking. A fairly egoistical, but also somewhat simple-minded dragon. Do not take such posts at face value.

I haven't read them, though I have heard of the author.

Same for me. Plus a good friend who struggled through The Road and eventually put it down, so not much incentive here...

Not a bad film though, 'The Road.'

I'm now halfway through 'Dragon Haven' and intend to start 'A Dance With Dragons' when I've finished. It's a proper dragon-fest at the moment! Wink However, I fear I've forgotten completely where Feast For Crows left off. It seems so long ago that I read it. Undecided

The local librarian told me that they are 'must reads' but he didn't have them on hand to lend me (of course!).

I'm not surprised that nobody has read them...I'm not sure about The Road but Blood Meridian sounds like it would sit firmly in the western genre. Thanks though! Slurp

My son is up to AFfC and I can't believe the number of times he's groaned following the death of yet another important character! P I haven't read any of the ASoIaF books yet (and won't until the series is done) but I did warn him about it after reading of such things here on thePlenty...

EDIT: I'm worried now that this ^ comment could be spoilerish!!! Is it? Undecided I know nothing except for the advice: "Don't get too attached to any of the characters"...

Oh yes, our Mr. Martin isn't shy of seeing folk off! I groaned rather a lot too.

It is strange from some perspectives how he kills off main characters, but it is also more logical. People do die in war. And they do not just die of old age or accidents.

Yes, agreed 'thul, it is inevitable in a war. But some scenes and 'seeings off' were so extreme, they left me gaping and a particular scene stopped me reading at one point, I was that shocked! You may be able to hazard a guess at the scene I'm talking about? It took me some time to get my head around it, I can tell ya!

Possibly the same event (though I have no idea! P ) that had my son wandering around bookless for a couple of days...he couldn't pick it up again until he'd had some time to absorb the shocking loss!
