Isn't Clive Barker the guy who came up with Hellraiser? I'm sure I can trust him to come up with some freaky stuff. And I'm proably the only person in the western world who has never read anything by Stephen King.

Thanks for your recommendations. I'll be sure to check them out, but I'll admit that it may take a while. (I've been intending to read the books of Joe Abercrombie for a couple of years now...)

These beings have not, nor plan to read anything by this Stephen King.

Note:
when 'thul write in all italics, it is the lord of the three realms within 'thul speaking. A fairly egoistical, but also somewhat simple-minded dragon. Do not take such posts at face value.

Yes, that's the one, it was based on 'The hellbound heart'. There are quite a few of his horror books/short stories which were turned into a movie:
- Candyman (based on a short story, 'Forbidden')
- The midnight meat train
- Nightbreed (based on his book 'Cabal')

As usual, the books are better Smiling.
If you want to start with some short horror stories, then the Books of blood are a good start. 'The body politic' from Books of blood 4 was one of the funniest horror stories I ever read.

You should give Eyes of the dragon a chance. It's a fantasy book, not a horror one.

There are too many books on the plan-to-read list already.

The only Stephen King book I really like is Eyes of the dragon. I was mildly bored while reading most of his other work (I can remember Pet cemetery, Cujo, Cariie, and the first two or three Dark tower volumes, but I'm fairly certain I've read more). His Bachmann work was slightly more interesting.

For me, the best horror novelist is Clive Barker. But I must admit that I rarely read horror.
Foolish by name, foolish by nature P

My husband thought much the same..to quote "Stephen King can ramble on about nothing of any use for pages and pages, yet you can't read LoTR!" Well, horses for courses Smiling
